Patola Joins Forces in the War on Terror

Well... nobody ventured to guess who the political figures were in a previous post, which isn't really any big deal since I never figured out what kind of prize there would be. :). Anyhow, I've decided to reveal four of them...

I'm guessing that much of my readership hails from the Seattle area. That could be one explanation for why my traffic stats really dropped off last evening and today. Crazy weather they're having, I guess. Who can explain it...?

Couldn't resist... the problem with Gore, tho, is that his speaking style doesn't really lend itself well to funny quotes the way Bush does. If anyone can come up with a funnier caption, let me know.

Impressin' the Chicks

Two fascinating clips from the BBC series "The Life of Birds", hosted by David Attenborough.

Song-and-dance numbers:  male birds of paradise and their elaborate courtship behaviors.

Amazing improv: a male lyrebird sings an elaborate song that includes mimicry of other birds -- as well as camera shutters and chainsaw sounds.

Everyone's Getting That General Impression...

I'd had this cartoon concept idea of caricaturing the various politicos as school kids, sitting at their respective cafeteria tables. Of course, someone else beat me to it -- here's a new series by Ampd Mobile called Li'l Bush...

This may have only been a matter of time, since more and more people are getting that general impression of Bush & Co. -- and that can only be a good thing. (Below is a cartoon from the inimitable UK artist Steve Bell.)

...And here's a little art film I found online called "Veruca Salt Meets Bush" by artist Vince Packard... enjoy.

Interlude III: Act of God?

If This Was An Act of God...

...God must have decided my old, rickety garage needed to be replaced, which I'd been procrastinating on since even demolition can cost a few thousand dollars. At around the time the tree was blown down, wind speed was clocked at 62 mph at a nearby airport.

Miraculously, the two cars inside were undamaged. Part of the tree's trunk was twisted like a U-shaped drain pipe, and the curve in the trunk came around the garage roof instead of crashing right through it. Fortunately, insurance will be (mostly) paying for the cleanup and construction of a new garage. And some of the salvaged oak logs will be used to grow shitaake mushrooms. (Store bought mushrooms just don't compare with fresh wood-grown shitaakes.)
